Storytime: The Sound of Wonder, Family, and the Spark That Started It All

Storytime is the first album in the Roots Beneath saga and the earliest narrative entry in the Signiverse.
Though not part of the Fantasy Lo-Fi genre, it shares its storytelling spirit through theme and emotion. This is where the spark caught. The emotional focus and quiet structure of Storytime shaped the foundation for what Fantasy Lo-Fi would later explore in full.

This nineteen-track album captures the moment something shifts in Sarah Morgan’s world, when wonder finds its first direction. The first time her grandmother Eleanor read aloud from the book. The first time she heard the name Virethine. The first time she realized stories could feel real.

Set in the early winter weeks in the land of Signi, Storytime grounds the saga in family, wonder, and a single, silent decision. Tracks such as Cozy Read and Quiet Quill trace Sarah’s inner rhythm, her awe, her focus, and her sense that what she was hearing might be more than myth. Frosted Chapters reflects the quiet unease felt by the rest of the household. While Sarah leaned into wonder, Paige, Silas, and Stefan sensed a change they could not name. The story reached them too, in subtler ways.

In Paper Trails, Sarah’s imagination spills into her brother’s notebook. In Sway, Eleanor gently tries to steer her attention toward painting, sensing that the book might be too heavy for a child her age. But it is too late. The spark has caught. By Through the Pages, Sarah begins reading the book herself, slowly, reverently, alone. She does not understand everything, but she holds onto the feeling that something important has begun.

Other tracks highlight the family’s emotional world. Muse centers Silas, whose quiet pride surfaces when Eleanor asks him to retrieve the book, a reminder that his family still looks to him when it matters most.

Paige honors Sarah’s mother, whose sense of peace comes from tending a garden and raising children in a home full of light. Winter Tales finds the family in the backyard, telling stories by lantern light, a memory Sarah keeps tucked close even as her grandmother leaves, unsure when they will meet again.

Silent Pages and Written Words mark Sarah’s quiet turning point. She does not talk about what she is feeling, but she writes it on folded paper, in lines that run off the page. She does not yet know how to say it aloud, but one word keeps returning to her thoughts.

Virethine.

That word is the weight in her chest, the reason she stays up late, the shape of a dream she does not yet understand.

While Storytime is not a Fantasy Lo-Fi album, it holds the ember of everything that follows. It serves as the emotional prelude to All-Nighter, the quiet ancestor of Whispers of Summer, and the moment Sarah’s path grows beyond childhood curiosity. It is a story-driven Lo-Fi album built on truth, clarity, and emotional depth.

Some sagas do not begin with answers. They begin with a girl in her bedroom, a story in her hands, and a silence that finally starts to mean something.
