Today marks the first day of spring—the season when trees can finally reveal their true beauty, bringing new life with fresh leaves that reach for the sky. While winter is my favorite time of year, I can’t deny that spring has its own unique charm. Watching the trees come back to life and hearing the birds chirp happily fills the air with a kind of magic that’s hard to resist.
My family, in particular, is excited that spring has arrived. Mom is eager to return to her garden, as she loves caring for her flowers and watching them bloom. My brother Stefan is like the sun in this season—he thrives in the warmth and renewal of spring. This is his moment to shine, a time when he feels truly alive.
Then there’s Jenna, my sister, who seems glued to her room. No season can coax her out, and sometimes I wonder what keeps her so absorbed in there. Lately, I’ve caught her scribbling things down, her door half-closed, whispering to herself. When I ask, she just smiles and says it’s nothing.
As I look out my window, the majestic mountain looms before me. On some nights, I swear I see faint lights moving up its slope—but when I blink, they’re gone. I can sense that a world of adventure awaits, just beyond my reach.
Since childhood, Grandma has captivated me with her incredible stories from her time as an archaeologist. Her narratives ignited my imagination and instilled a profound love for history in me. Those tales awakened an adventurous spirit that has been growing within me ever since. Now, it feels like my moment for adventure might finally be arriving.
Each year, the Lakeview Public Museum hosts a contest, giving three fortunate winners the chance to participate in a real archaeological dig. This year is particularly exciting, as they’ve just revealed the discovery of a piece of an artifact at one of their excavation sites. I heard they found something unusual this time—but the museum’s keeping the details under wraps. The buzz in town is palpable, and I can’t shake the feeling that this could be my big break.
